Eunhye's Hug

The illustrated essay "Eunhye’s Hug" has been published by Jeong Eun-hye, the actress and artist with developmental disabilities who moved and amazed audiences with her portrayal of Yeong-hee, a character with Down syndrome, in the drama 《Our Blues.》 In the drama, Yeong-hee desperately cries, “You, you, you left me?” Eunhye, who for a long time had to curl up in her own ‘cave’ due to her Down syndrome, has now stepped out into the world. With her arms wide open, she embraces people, breaking down the barriers of the rigid world one by one.

Returning to her original career as a painter, Jeong Eun-hye’s first illustrated essay "Eunhye’s Hug" features the faces and figures of the people she has hugged and those she deeply wishes to embrace. Among those Eunhye has hugged are famous figures such as actress Han Ji-min, who played her twin sister in the drama, actor Kim Woo-bin, and artist Kim Mi-kyung, as well as many ordinary yet special individuals who have come into her life.

드라마 《우리들의 블루스》에서 배우 한지민의 다운증후군 언니 ‘영희’ 역을 맡아 사람들을 울리고 놀라게 한 실제 발달장애인 배우이자 화가 정은혜의 그림에세이가 출간되었다. “너, 너, 너 나 버렸지?” 하고 절규하던 극중의 영희, 오랫동안 자기만의 ‘동굴’에서 웅크리고 있어야 했던 다운증후군 장애인 은혜씨는 지금 세상 속으로 걸어나와 두 팔을 크게 벌려 사람들을 끌어안고, 견고한 세상의 경계들을 하나씩 무너뜨리고 있다.

배우에서 본업인 화가로 돌아와 정은혜 작가가 펴내는 첫번째 그림에세이 『은혜씨의 포옹』은 정은혜 작가가 직접 안아주고 안긴 사람들, 그리고 오래도록 꼭 끌어안고 싶은 사랑하는 사람들의 얼굴과 모습을 담았다. 은혜씨가 안아주고 안긴 사람들에는 드라마에서 쌍둥이 동생역을 맡은 한지민 배우, 김우빈 배우, 김미경 화가 등 유명인은 물론, 그에게 다가온 여러 평범하고도 특별한 사람들이 있다.
