Hyeong-yong, a man in his forties who was forced into early retirement from a major corporation in Seoul, learns about a piece of land in Cheongsadong, Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, that his late older brother had purchased under their mother’s name. Without telling his sister-in-law, Hyeong-yong has the land transferred to him by his mother and builds a café called Yumeya, designed in the style of a traditional Japanese colonial-era house, on a hill overlooking the sea—dreaming of turning his life around.

But on the very first day, the food begins to rot. His wife, Yoo-hwa, is tormented by visions of a “white-faced man” dressed in traditional Japanese clothing. Unable to shake her sense of dread, Yoo-hwa begins researching the history of the land. She discovers that it was once a luxurious residence owned by a Japanese family, and that a husband and wife died in the house.

Was the “white-faced man” Yoo-hwa saw truly a ghost?
