Amil (Kim Ji-hyun), who garnered attention for his unique mythological imagination and sharp perspective, winning the 2018 SF Award for Best Short/Medium Fiction and the 2020 SF Award for Best Short/Medium Fiction, has now released his second short story collection, 《How Come Melon...》.

Known for his focus on creating unpredictable worlds that are both rooted in reality and yet slightly askew, 《How Come Melon...》 constructs a unique and unparalleled world that readers could never have imagined. The collection includes eight vibrant and inventive stories, such as "My Lesbian Vampire Friend", which portrays the complex and subtle friendship between a heterosexual human and a lesbian vampire; "A Butch's Sex Robot Diaries", about a butch who invites a sex robot into her home to cope with the pain of first love; and "Gluing Doll's Eye", where a witch with no particular ambition finds herself entangled in a dangerous job.

엉뚱하면서도 독특한 인물들의 활약이 눈길을 사로잡는 가운데 더욱 경쾌하고 능청스러워진 서사가 빛난다. 박서련 작가의 말처럼, “갓 씻어낸 제철 과일처럼 신선한 상상력과 곧 그 껍질을 저며낼 칼처럼 예리한 시선이 공존하는 이야기” 사이를 유영하다 보면 오래도록 기다려온 “마녀의 소설”의 탄생에 함께 축배를 들게 될 것이다.
