The depiction of wearing masks despite the suffocating heat in the opening scenes suggests the presence of COVID-19 in the novel's reality. Seonsook, who was frustrated by conflicts with her son, has become the store manager, while Yeom, who was pushing to sell the convenience store, now has her troublesome son, Minsik, as the owner. Although he is called the owner, Minsik has no interest in management and only focuses on reducing expenses like holiday pay, making the convenience store "truly inconvenient" in many ways. Amidst this, Kwak, who was in charge of the night shift after Dogo, resigns, and the convenience store undergoes another change as they seek a new night shift worker.
