Kokuho Part1: Youth Edition

The movie 〈Kokuhō (National Treasure)〉, which was released in Japan in June 2025, caused a sensation in the Japanese film industry, surpassing 10 million viewers. The film, which centers on the traditional kabuki theater—a form of art that has somewhat fallen out of the mainstream today—was inspired by the novel 《Kokuhō》 by Yoshida Shuichi, one of Japan's leading literary figures. The novel also gained immense popularity, selling over a million copies after its release.

Through the novel, the author revives the fading kabuki culture, portraying characters who pour their hearts into creating perfect performances, dances, and stages. In doing so, the work invites readers to reflect on what it truly means to reach the pinnacle of art.

The novel, in particular, sheds light on the struggles of kabuki actors who have been pushed to the margins of society, showing that the glamorous life everyone dreams of is never easily attained. The film, while capturing the essence of the story, couldn't fully convey the intense lives of the main characters and supporting figures.
