『악의 교전』은 우리가 ‘선하고 안전한’ 공간이라 인식하는 학교가 “정말 그러한 곳인가?”라는 의문과 함께 시작한다. 소설 속 등장하는 학교는 이미 도덕적 올바름은 잃은 지 오래. 배움의 전당이라는 허울만 남은 학교 안에서 일어나는 집단 따돌림, 폭력, 절도, 마약, 성추행 등. 학생에서 학생에게로, 그리고 교사에서 학생에게로 이어지는 악의 연쇄 속으로 상상조차 할 수 없던 ‘절대 악(惡)’이 등장한다. 천사의 얼굴을 하고 학교를 조종하는 영어교사 하스미 세이지. 그리고 하스미는 아주 사소한 계기로 다시 연쇄살인마로 각성하게 되는데…….
