Han Kang's first book and first novel collection. "Love in Yeosu," which was released in 1995, depicts the loss of existence and wandering by carefully examining the essential loneliness and hardships of life. Through this publication, the novel has changed its layout and refined some expressions.

Yeosu is the name of the sad heart that the injured and sick will finally reach. The seven short stories contain a serious look at fate and death, lonely and isolated characters leave, abandon, wander, and fall. 한강 작가의 첫 책이자 첫번째 소설집. 1995년에 출간된 <여수의 사랑>은 삶의 본질적인 외로움과 고단함을 섬세하게 살피며 존재의 상실과 방황을 그려낸다. 이번 출간을 통해 소설 배치를 바꾸고 몇몇 표현을 다듬었다.

여수발 기차에 실려와 서울역에 버려진 자흔과 아내를 잃은 아버지가 자신과 동생을 데리고 동반자살을 시도했던 정선('여수의 사랑'), 동생의 죽음을 목격한 인규('질주'), 식물인간이 된 쌍둥이 동생의 삶까지 살아내야 하는 동걸('야간열차'), 백치 같은 여동생을 버리고 고향에서 도망친 정환('진달래 능선') 그리고 집과 고향을 버리고 고아처럼 떠돌며 자신을 찾으려 애쓰는 영진과 인숙('어둠의 사육제').

여수는 어딘가 상처 입고 병든 이들이 마침내 다다를 서러운 마음의 이름이다. 운명과 죽음에 대한 진지한 시선이 녹아 있는 일곱 편의 단편들에서 고독하고 고립된 등장인물들은 떠나고, 버리고, 방황하고, 추락한다. 죽음 가까이에서 존재의 살아 있음을 일깨우면서 사람과 세상에 대한 갈망을 멈추지 않는 존재들이 차갑고도 뜨거운 여운을 남긴다.
