Movie [Once We Were Us] Screenplay

The screenplay book for 〈Once We Were Us〉—a film that broke the long slump of romance movies and achieved box office success—is being published. The film tells the story of Eun-ho (Koo Kyo-hwan) and Jung-won (Moon Ga-young), who once loved each other passionately and meet again after 10 years, confronting the time they believed had already come to an end.

The included screenplay is a shooting script refined by the director to match the actors’ delivery, based on the writer’s original manuscript. It features the full, uncut script, along with two forewords by writer Yeom Moon-kyung and director Kim Do-young. Actress Moon Ga-young contributes a letter written in Jung-won’s voice to Eun-ho, and the book also includes a first-ever release of storyboards, previously unpublished stills, and a review by journalist Cha Han-bi that explores why the two inevitably became “home” to each other—all collected in a single volume.

The book’s design follows the film’s temporal structure. Like the movie, the past appears in color, while the present is rendered in black and white, alternating throughout. The front cover features a pink-toned beach scene from the past, while the back cover shows their present-day reunion in black and white, connected by a gradient in between. The storyboards also distinguish past and present through color, allowing the film’s sense of time to flow across the pages—offering readers a way to encounter If We Had once again through text.

멜로 영화의 오랜 침체를 깨며 흥행에 성공한 〈만약에 우리〉의 각본집이 출간된다. 영화 <만약에 우리>는 뜨겁게 사랑했던 은호(구교환)와 정원(문가영)이 10년 만에 다시 만나 끝났다고 믿었던 시간을 다시 마주하는 이야기다.

수록된 각본은 작가의 원고를 바탕으로 감독이 배우의 호흡에 맞게 다듬은 촬영고로, 무삭제 각본 전문과 함께 염문경 작가와 김도영 감독의 서문 두 편을 실었다. 배우 문가영이 정원의 이름으로 은호에게 보내는 편지를 남겼고, 처음 공개되는 스토리보드와 미공개 스틸, 두 사람이 서로에게 집이 될 수밖에 없었던 이유를 들여다본 차한비 기자의 리뷰까지 한 권에 담았다.

책의 디자인은 영화의 시간 구조를 따랐다. 영화처럼 과거는 컬러로, 현재는 흑백으로 교차한다. 표지 앞면에는 과거의 해변 장면을 핑크 톤으로, 뒷면에는 현재의 재회 장면을 흑백으로 실었고 그 사이를 그라데이션이 잇는다. 스토리보드에서도 과거와 현재를 색으로 구분해 영화의 시간이 책 위에서도 흐르도록 하고, 그렇게 영화 <만약에 우리>의 시간을 텍스트로 다시 만날 수 있도록 했다.
