Movie [Set Me Free] Novel

Gayeon Culture Classic Vol. 22. The film 《Set Me Free》 tells the heartbreaking story of Yeong-jae, a 17-year-old boy who leaves his irresponsible parents and chooses to live in a group home, Semo’s House. More than growing pains, he experiences the harsh realities of life at an early age. Though he turns away from his family, he cannot completely abandon them, grappling with deep internal conflicts as he struggles to sustain himself.

The film was invited to the Korean Cinema Today – Vision section of the 2014 Busan International Film Festival, where it won the Actor of the Year Award and the Citizen Critics’ Award.

The novel 《Set Me Free》 delves deeper into the characters’ emotions and circumstances, offering a different kind of impact and perspective compared to the film. Additionally, the original screenplay is included at the end of the book, allowing readers to explore how the script was transformed into a film and compare the differences between the novel and the cinematic adaptation.
