Movie [The King's Warden] Screenplay

The screenplay book for 〈The King's Warden〉 with the King—a film that continues to rewrite Korean box office history with record-breaking audience numbers—is being published. The story follows 17-year-old Lee Hong-wi (Park Ji-hoon), who is dethroned and exiled to Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol, and Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin), the head of Gwangcheongol village who voluntarily chooses exile in hopes of reviving his community. Together, they become each other’s source of hope.

This book includes the complete final shooting script used during filming, allowing readers to explore not only lines and scenes that differ from the finished film, but also the characters’ expressions and inner emotions described in the stage directions—elements often hidden behind the performances. In addition to the screenplay, the volume features newly written forewords by writer Hwang Seong-gu and director Jang Hang-jun, a storyboard breaking down the ending scene shot by shot, and handwritten signatures and messages from 12 cast members, including the director.

The design is inspired by the bound format of on-set scripts used during filming, with newly created patterns that give the book its own distinctive texture. A traditional-style typeface and paper reminiscent of hanji evoke the atmosphere of an old manuscript. Notably, following the storyboard section is a fold-out page featuring Cheongnyeongpodo, a Joseon-era true-view landscape painting depicting the site of King Danjong’s exile—allowing readers to unfold a glimpse of the real historical setting and linger in its resonance.

기록적 관객 동원과 함께 한국영화 흥행 신화를 연일 갱신하고 있는 〈왕과 사는 남자〉의 각본집이 출간된다. 이 작품은 왕위에서 쫓겨나 영월 청령포로 유배된 열일곱의 이홍위(박지훈)와, 마을의 부흥을 꿈꾸며 유배지를 자처한 광천골 촌장 엄흥도(유해진)가 만나 서로에게 희망이 되어가는 이야기를 그린다.

이 책에는 촬영에 쓰인 최종 각본 전문을 수록하여 완성된 영화와는 일부 다른 대사와 장면은 물론, 연기 뒤에 가려진 지문 속 인물의 표정과 심리까지 읽을 수 있다. 각본에 더해, 이 책을 위해 새로 집필한 황성구 작가와 장항준 감독의 서문, 엔딩 장면을 컷 단위로 구성한 스토리보드, 감독을 포함한 출연진 12인의 친필 사인과 메시지를 한 권에 수록했다.

디자인은 촬영 현장에서 쓰인 현장대본의 서책 형태를 바탕으로, 문양을 새롭게 그려 각본집만의 결을 더했다. 옛체 서체와 한지를 닮은 종이가 고서의 분위기를 살리고, 특히 스토리보드 파트 뒤에는 단종의 유배지를 그린 조선 시대 실경산수화 <청령포도>를 접지 페이지로 구성해, 이야기가 실재했던 장소를 잠시 펼쳐 여운을 느낄 수 있도록 했다.
