《Rough Sketches of Seoul Hotspots Diary》 is a picture diary by illustrator Lee Ye-eun, known on Instagram as Daechung Diary, where she captures small moments of daily life in charming, heartwarming illustrations. This diary can be seen as a “hotspot diary” of the city, recording unique urban gems she discovers while exploring Seoul by subway, combining text and drawings to guide readers through her journeys.

Describing herself as a “walker to the bone,” Lee has long cherished the Seoul subway, filled with memories since childhood. As a freelancer, she rides the subway even more, wandering across the city to find her “office of the day.” Along the way, she discovers distinctive shops, cozy cafés ideal for work, and pleasant walking paths. Layering her unique illustration style with personal stories and reflections, she has compiled these experiences into a single book.

Organized into six chapters covering Lines 1 through 6, the book highlights 36 representative subway stations and 242 surrounding hotspots. Although the illustrations appear casually drawn, they are carefully crafted and complemented by handwritten notes packed with fun details. Short essays throughout each chapter also offer glimpses of the artist’s warm, observant perspective on each subway line.

‘대충다이어리’라는 인스타그램에서 일상의 작은 순간들을 귀엽고 따뜻한 그림으로 기록해온 일러스트레이터 이예은 작가의 그림일기다. 지하철을 타고 서울 곳곳을 둘러보는 것을 즐기는 작가가 발품 들여 발견한 도심 속 명소들을 글과 그림으로 엮은 핫플 일기라고 할 수 있다.

자신을 ‘뼛속까지 뚜벅이’라고 소개하는 작가는, 어릴 적부터 이용해온 서울 지하철에 애정과 추억이 가득하다. 프리랜서가 된 뒤로는 더욱 지하철을 탈 일이 많아져서, 유랑하듯 서울 곳곳을 오가며 ‘오늘의 사무실’을 찾아 나서곤 했다. 그렇게 그의 눈에 들어온 특색 있는 가게들, 작업하기 좋은 카페, 걷기 좋은 산책길이 차곡차곡 쌓였고, 개성 있는 그림체에 작가의 감성과 이야기를 더해 한 권의 책으로 완성됐다.

1호선부터 6호선까지 총 여섯 장으로 구성된 《대충 그린 서울 핫플 다이어리》에는 각 호선을 대표하는 36개 지하철역과 그 주변의 핫플 242곳이 촘촘히 담겨 있다. 대충 그린 듯 보여도 공들여 작업한 그림과 깨알 정보를 더한 손글씨가 보는 재미를 선사하고, 각 장에 실린 짧은 에세이에서는 각 호선을 바라보는 작가의 따듯한 시선도 엿볼 수 있다.
