Scientific Prose

Physicist Kim Sang-wook and astronomer Shim Chae-kyung have published 『Scientific Prose』. The book refines and expands essays they serialized from fall 2024 to early 2025 on their paid email subscription service of the same name. In 『Scientific Prose』, Kim and Shim exchange letters addressed to each other and to their readers. Physics, which probes the origins of matter, and astronomy, which observes the vast universe—two disciplines rooted in somewhat different worlds—come together as they share reflections on everyday scenes and thoughts. These encounters, sometimes harmonious, sometimes clashing, create new narratives that traverse both science and life.

Is this book “science prose” or “prose about science”? Somewhere in between, the scientists near us occasionally write warmly but always with rigor, exchanging insights on ordinary life and extraordinary reflections.
