Still, A Good Day

The bestselling book 『Still, A Good Day』 by illustrator Gu Jakga, which tells the story of a deaf girl who lives while drawing a big-eared rabbit named Benny who listens to sounds on her behalf, has returned with a revised edition 10 years after its original publication. The book shares the author’s journey of conveying hope through art despite living in a world without sound.

After entering the Korea Animation High School with a hearing disability, the author worked as a Cyworld skin designer, where she first created the rabbit character Benny. Later, she was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a disease that gradually leads to vision loss. The book recounts how she continued her life and art by writing a bucket list and pursuing her dreams despite these challenges.

This revised edition presents redrawn and reorganized illustrations in a new design. It features artwork that highlights the charm of watercolor and digital drawing, more warmly refined writing, and an additional story about the author’s “second chapter of life” that has unfolded over the past decade.

귀가 들리지 않는 소녀가 자신 대신 소리를 들어줄 귀 큰 토끼 ‘베니’를 그리며 살아가는 이야기를 담은 구작가의 베스트셀러 『그래도 괜찮은 하루』가 출간 10년 만에 개정판으로 돌아왔다. 소리를 들을 수 없는 삶 속에서도 그림을 통해 희망을 전해 온 작가의 이야기를 담았다.

청각 장애를 안고 한국애니메이션고등학교에 진학한 작가는 싸이월드 스킨 작가로 활동하며 토끼 ‘베니’ 캐릭터를 탄생시켰다. 이후 시력을 잃게 되는 병 ‘망막색소변성증’ 진단을 받지만, 버킷 리스트를 적으며 그림과 삶을 이어 가는 과정을 이야기한다.

이번 개정판은 기존 그림을 다시 그리고 정리해 새로운 디자인으로 선보인다. 수채화와 디지털 드로잉의 매력을 살린 그림과 더 따뜻해진 시선으로 다듬어진 글, 그리고 10년 사이 펼쳐진 작가의 ‘인생 제2막’ 이야기를 함께 담았다.
