This short story collection reexamines the value of ordinary life through the premise of a visible “number of remaining times.” The original novel behind the film 〈Number One〉—starring Choi Woo-shik and Jang Hye-jin, directed by Kim Tae-yong—it is drawing renewed attention with its reissue seven years after first publication, ahead of the film’s release. Through quiet, probing questions, the book explores how one’s attitude toward life changes the moment numbers begin to appear.

In the title story, 「You Have 328 Meals Left to Eat Your Mother's Home Cooking,」 a ten-year-old child avoids his mother’s table out of fear that the number might reach zero. Within the irony that an attempt to protect a loved one can itself become a source of hurt, the story delicately portrays how the finite nature of shared time creates subtle fractures in life.

The six stories that follow illuminate different facets of existence through varied countdowns: the number of times one can make a phone call, the number of times misfortune will strike, the number of times one can play, the number of days left to live.
