Details

On September 1, 1923, a massive earthquake strikes the Kanto region of Japan.

In the immediate aftermath, the Japanese government spreads rumors claiming that “Koreans are planning an uprising,” leading to the declaration of martial law. Under this pretext, countless innocent Koreans are massacred in one of the most brutal incidents in modern history.

Despite being recognized as an unprecedented act of mass violence, the Japanese government has continued to deny and obscure the truth for over a century.

This documentary follows the voices of Japanese civic groups, bereaved families, and politicians who seek to uncover the historical truth. It presents newly revealed photographic evidence taken by Western naval personnel, along with military records that expose the scale and reality of the massacre.
