『The Couple Upstairs』 centers on Oh Gyeong-jik, a blunt, fastidious man in his seventies. One day, while watching the news as usual, he hears that South Korea is no longer simply a country with a low birth rate—it has become a nation of extremely low fertility. Born in an era when the country's total fertility rate exceeded six children per woman, Oh can scarcely comprehend the Korea of today.

Convinced that he must do something for the sake of his country, he takes an unprecedented step: for the first time in his life, he reaches out to the young married couple living upstairs—people who are, for all intents and purposes, complete strangers to him. What begins as an awkward approach soon sets an unexpected story in motion.
