A man’s body with a gunshot wound to his back is discovered floating in the sea off Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo. As his identity is confirmed, the woman living with him, who reported him missing, suddenly disappears without a trace. Detectives Kusanagi and Utsumi, assigned to the case, unexpectedly come across Yukawa’s name during their investigation. Kusanagi visits his longtime friend and asks for help, but Yukawa immediately refuses his request. However, as he sees Kusanagi off, Yukawa suddenly says that he will cooperate with the investigation in another way. Later, after visiting locations related to the case with Yukawa, Utsumi senses that the physicist is hiding something. Yet the investigation makes little progress, and the police repeatedly miss crucial clues. Eventually, Yukawa reveals a secret he has kept to himself for many years…
