‘알파alpha, α’는 그리스어의 첫 글자로서 최초 · 시작의 의미를 가진다. 소프트웨어를 개발할 때 처음으로 하는 내부 테스트를 ‘알파’ 테스트, 우주 탐사 같은 새로운 기술 프로젝트를 ‘알파’ 프로젝트라고 한다. 특히 무리에서 가장 탁월하고 앞장서는 존재를 지칭할 때에도 ‘알파독’ · ‘알파메일’ 하는 식으로 ‘알파’라는 단어를 쓴다. 이에 양떼처럼 시류에 순응해 휩쓸려 다니기보다는 그 무리에서 뛰쳐나와 자신만의 생각을 처음으로 실행할 수 있는 존재가 되자는 취지에서, 2027년의 슬로건은 ‘ALPHA SHEEP’으로 정했다.

양은 순한 것 같아도, 매우 고집 세고 공격적인 동물이라고 한다. 사회경제적 양극화와 인공지능의 거센 물결이 글로벌 사회를 휩쓰는 현대사회에서 트렌드에 대응하면서도 알파쉽으로서의 능동적인 실행력이 그 어느 때보다도 절실한 2027년이 될 것이다.

“Alpha (α)” is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and carries the meaning of the beginning or the first. In software development, the initial stage of internal testing is called “alpha testing,” while pioneering technology initiatives, such as space exploration, are often referred to as “alpha projects.” The word “alpha” is also used to describe the most outstanding and leading individual within a group, as in “alpha dog” or “alpha male.”

With this in mind, the slogan for 2027 has been chosen as “ALPHA SHEEP,” conveying the idea that rather than simply conforming to the prevailing current and being swept along like a flock of sheep, we should break away from the herd and become individuals who are willing to act on our own ideas for the first time.

Although sheep may appear gentle and docile, they are said to be surprisingly stubborn and aggressive animals. In today’s global society, where socioeconomic polarization and the powerful wave of artificial intelligence are sweeping across the world, 2027 will be a year in which we must respond to rapidly changing trends while, more than ever, demonstrating the initiative and drive to turn our own ideas into action as Alpha Sheep.
