Korean Edition Book [Ocean Waves - The Visual Collection]

1990년, 히무로 사에코의 원작 소설 연재가 시작되었다. 그리고 1993년, 애니메이션 작품 『바다가 들린다』가 탄생했다. 고치와 도쿄를 무대로 10대 남녀의 무엇과도 바꿀 수 없는 나날을 그린 청춘 이야기. 애니메이션 제작의 중심이 된 스태프들에게는 ‘스튜디오 지브리 신예 제작 집단’이라는 이름이 붙었다. 그로부터 31년이 지난 2024년 봄, 도쿄 시부야의 영화관에서 진행된 재개봉은 성황을 이루었다. 작품을 ‘새롭게 발견’한 이들은 역시의 젊은이들이었다.

31년의 세월을 지나 간행되는 본서에서는 현재 모을 수 있는, 최대로 방대한 비주얼을 아낌없이 투입했다. 모치즈키 감독이 직접 선정한 베스트 30컷으로 이어지는 필름 스토리, 수려한 화질의 각종 컬러 일러스트, 캐릭터 설정, 미술 보드 등에 더해, 월간지 「아니메쥬」의 원작 연재 당시 그려진 140점에 달하는 콘도 카츠야의 아름다운 삽화를 미사용분까지 포함하여 최초로 모든 컬러 원고를 수록하고 나아가 콘도 씨가 소장한 스케치북에서 연재 전에 그려진 캐릭터 초안과 귀중한 자료도 최초로 공개한다.

권말 갤러리에서는 당시의 포스터와 홍보 자료, 역대 상품 등의 디자인을 게재하였으며, 모치즈키 토모미 감독과 콘도 카츠야 작화감독 그리고 타카하시 노조무 프로듀서 각 인물의 제작 당시 인터뷰와 본서를 위해 새롭게 진행한 인터뷰도 수록했다.

In 1990, the serialization of Saeko Himuro’s original novel began. Then, in 1993, the animated film 『Ocean Waves』 was created. Set in Kochi and Tokyo, this coming-of-age story portrays the irreplaceable days of teenage boys and girls. The staff members at the heart of the animation’s production were known as the “Studio Ghibli Young Production Group.” Thirty-one years later, in the spring of 2024, a theatrical re-release at a cinema in Shibuya, Tokyo, drew enthusiastic crowds. Those who “rediscovered” the film were, once again, young people.

Published 31 years after the film’s release, this book brings together the most extensive collection of visuals currently available. It features a film story told through 30 best scenes personally selected by director Tomomi Mochizuki, beautifully reproduced color illustrations, character designs, and art boards. It also includes, for the first time, all 140 or so exquisite illustrations by Katsuya Kondo originally created for the serialization in the monthly magazine 「Animage」, including previously unpublished pieces, with every color original reproduced. In addition, character concept sketches drawn before the serialization, along with other valuable materials from Kondo’s personal sketchbooks, are revealed here for the first time.

The gallery at the end of the book showcases designs for original posters, promotional materials, and merchandise from the time. It also includes interviews with director Tomomi Mochizuki, animation director Katsuya Kondo, and producer Nozomu Takahashi from the film’s production period, as well as newly conducted interviews created specifically for this book.
