빨래를 개고 있는 엄마에게 나리가 맞혀 보라며 퀴즈 게임을 시작한다. 엄마는 불길한 예감을 한 듯 맞히지 못해도 화내지 말라고 다짐을 받고 시작한다. 나리는 몸을 구부리고, 이불을 뒤집어쓰기도 하고, 팔을 휙휙 돌리기도 하면서 온갖 다양한 모습을 흉내 낸다. 하지만 엄마는 도무지 뭔지 알아맞히지 못한다.

마침내 나리는 왜 이걸 모르냐며 화가 나고, 엄마도 그걸 어떻게 아냐며 대꾸한다. 나리의 사물 흉내가 끝없이 펼쳐지며 기발함에 탄성을 지르게 되고, 점점 화가 고조되었다가 이내 풀리며 놀이를 이어가는 엄마와 나리의 대화가 사랑스러운 작품이다.

The fourth book in the Scholar Creative Picture Book series, this story showcases the signature whimsical imagination and adorable characters of Shinsuke Yoshitake, following his 2017 Bologna Ragazzi Award Special Mention-winning picture book <I Wish I Hadn’t Taken It Off>. While folding laundry, Nari challenges her mother to a guessing game. Sensing trouble, Mom makes Nari promise not to get upset even if she fails to guess correctly. Nari bends her body, covers herself with a blanket, swings her arms around, and imitates all sorts of things. But Mom simply cannot figure out what she is supposed to be.

Eventually, Nari gets frustrated and asks how Mom could possibly not know, while Mom fires back, asking how she could be expected to guess. As Nari’s imaginative imitations of everyday objects continue one after another, readers will find themselves exclaiming in delight at her creativity. This charming picture book captures the lovely exchanges between mother and daughter as their frustration gradually builds, then fades away, allowing them to continue playing together.
