우리 민족의 웅혼한 기상을 품은 이름, 홍범도. 『범의 길』은 독립의 영웅 홍범도와 인간 홍범도의 모습을 동시에 보여주는 일러스트 영화 각본집이다. 대한독립군 총사령관이었지만 주인공이 되기를 원하지 않았던 홍범도와 조국의 독립을 위해 함께 싸우며 기꺼이 목숨을 던진 수많은 의병들의 이야기를 들려준다.

봉오골 전투와 청산리 전투의 영웅이자 ‘날아다니는 홍범도’라 불렸던 유격대장, 아내와 아들을 잃고 무수한 동지들의 죽음을 지켜봐야 했던 외로운 인간의 모습을 교차해 홍범도라는 역사적 인물에 새로운 깊이를 부여한다. 또한 오랜 조사 끝에 찾아낸 이름들을 하나하나 호명하며, 금강산 단발령과 두만강, 개마고원과 연해주, 봉오동과 화룡에서 싸운 이들을 기억의 시공간으로 되돌린다.

영화감독 박흥식이 쓴 각본에 수묵화가 유준의 수묵화를 대거 추가하고, 배우들이 각본 리딩에 사용하는 가로 판형을 채택해 영화의 호흡에 맞춰 읽는 재미를 살렸다. 문재인 전 대통령과 작가 김미옥, 박유진 신부가 추천했으며, 읽기 위한 영화 시나리오인 레제스쩨나리오라는 새로운 장르의 출발점을 제시한다.

Hong Beom-do—the name that embodies the indomitable spirit of our people. 『The Tiger's Way』 is an illustrated film screenplay book that portrays both Hong Beom-do the independence hero and Hong Beom-do the human being. It tells the story of Hong Beom-do, who served as Commander-in-Chief of the Korean Independence Army but never sought to be the protagonist, as well as the countless righteous fighters who willingly risked their lives alongside him for the independence of their homeland.

The book brings new depth to the historical figure of Hong Beom-do by interweaving his image as the hero of the Battles of Bongo-dong and Cheongsan-ri, the guerrilla commander known as “Flying Hong Beom-do,” with that of a lonely man who lost his wife and son and was forced to witness the deaths of countless comrades. It also calls out, one by one, the names uncovered through years of research, returning those who fought at the Dandong Pass in Geumgangsan, along the Tumen River, across the Kaema Plateau and Primorsky Krai, and at Bongo-dong and Hailong to the spaces and times of memory.

Written by film director Park Heung-sik, the screenplay is accompanied by numerous ink-and-wash paintings by ink artist Yoo Jun. The book adopts the horizontal format traditionally used by actors for screenplay readings, adding to the pleasure of reading it in a rhythm that follows the pacing of a film. Recommended by former President Moon Jae-in, writer Kim Mi-ok, and Father Park Yu-jin, the book offers a starting point for a new genre known as les scénario—a film scenario created to be read.
